Office for Seniors

The Office for Seniors provides information to seniors and those who help them.

We also encourage New Zealanders of all ages to think about the ageing population and what it means to them.

And we help government and communities keep up-to-date with the needs of seniors.

Age-friendly auckland group smiles

Our work includes:

Positive Ageing

Our vision is for a society where people can age positively, where older people are highly valued and recognised as an integral part of families and communities.

Positive ageing reflects the attitudes and experiences older people have about themselves and how younger generations view ageing, including their own ageing.

Age friendly communities

Our work in this area involves promoting communities that are inclusive for people of all ages.

Social isolation

Our work in this area includes connecting neighbours and communities, and working to overcome social isolation

The Business of Ageing

Our Business of Ageing work explores the economic value and business opportunities that our ageing population can create, with the aim of encouraging discussion and further research.

Elder Abuse and Neglect

Elder abuse is often hidden and those who experience the abuse are frequently afraid to talk about it. We are working to improve understanding of this very challenging topic.

We help develop information to identify and prevent elder abuse and neglect.

Protecting your future with an Enduring Power of Attorney

Having an Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) means you can have peace of mind that you have decided, ahead of time, who you trust to make decisions for you if you can’t decide for yourself. It’s important for every adult, whatever their age, to take steps to create an EPA.

We have developed information and resources for people wanting to appoint an Enduring Power of Attorney.
